We’d be dead without desire

A desire, when it first arises is pure, free and a spontaneous expression of LOVE.

But it soon gets corrupted by our Pillars of Conditioning

Attachment –  I want it, want it, want it. I can think of nothing else.

ConditionalityI must have it. I will not be happy without it.

Judgement – This is a good thing. This is a bad thing.

ComparisonIs this a good thing to have? Is this what I want most?

FearThis may not be a good thing for me. This might be difficult to do/achieve.

DoubtCan this really happen?

GreedWhen I have this, I can have that and that and that or do that and that and that. All my problems will be solved.

UnworthinessWho would give me this? Who would want me? There are so many others who are so much better than me.

In this way, a pure and natural expression of LOVE is hijacked and denied its fuller expression in us and through us.

Now, it is true that sometimes, perhaps even often, desires are just meant to last for a few moments, moments that remind you of the infinite possibilities of the ocean of LOVE, the field of INFINITE INTELLIGENCE that we are. In fact, it is true to say that all desires serve this one purpose. But could there be other purposes to be served?

Certainly. As expressions of LOVE, desires have the side effects of removing the obstacles that our conditioning has placed in the path of our experience of LOVE so that, as we allow desires to arise and express themselves fully by guiding our thoughts, feelings and actions, we shed some of the layers of conditioning that have gotten in the way of our experience of our NATURAL state of LOVE.

Without desire, nothing that we see and have in this world would have been created. Desire is the natural impulse of LOVE, of INFINITE INTELLIGENCE, of GOD, of LIFE.

You know, the origins of the word ‘desire’ lie in the meaning ‘of the stars’ from the Latin phrase, ‘de sideres’’. To me, these origins connote a sense of something that comes from the stars – some celestial, heavenly state that is outside of our conditioning.

So, desire, in its purest form is sublime and divine. But, corrupted by the pillars of conditioning that I mentioned before, our desires can morph into monsters that wreak havoc on our own sense of wellbeing, our peace, our happiness, our freedom.turning us into oppressed slaves rather than willing servants.

To have no desire, to forbid desire to arise and to be guided by it (and not by our conditioning which involves attachment, fear etc) would be to cease living. How do I know this? Well, the very existence of the world tells me so.

You only have to look at the astounding grace and beauty and magnificence and diversity and ongoing creativity of life to realize there is a natural impulse at work, an impulse that swells within all of life compelling it to endless SELF- expression or GOD or LOVE or LIFE expression.

Who are we to deny this natural impulse? Who are we to refuse to be willing servants of its movements, its direction, its expressions? Who are we to stand in its way? Who are we to tell it that we know better? Who are we indeed when we ourselves are the very product of it?

Dare, therefore, to desire and dare to desire ever more for the impulse of LIFE, of LOVE, of GOD, of INFINITE INTELLIGENCE has no limits!
