There is a Malayalam (an Indian language) idiom that says:
‘Even the earth falls prostrate before the one who forgives’
While the whole world recoils in horror over what has been happening in the Middle East, for many of us, our hearts and souls are reeling with anguish, helplessness and despair. What can we do?
I have written my thoughts on what we can all do here.
The most salient point is this:
For peace anywhere and for anyone, we must ourselves be in a state of peace.
Which brings me to the Malayalam proverb that recognizes the virtue and wonderfulness of forgiveness. When we forgive, we restore ourselves to our natural great peace, the peace that the energy of the Universe, of Love, is imbued with.
When we forgive, we remove whatever barriers there were in our minds to the sublime rush of Universal Love, allowing it to course through our consciousness freely, fully and limitlessly. Can you think of anything more desirable?
Unforgiveness keeps us mercilessly at war within ourselves. You may think your anger, hatred and distrust are directed at another but really, you are directing every bit of it toward yourself equally for whatever we send out is reflected back to us in equal measure. Nothing personal, just the way consciousness works.
Yet, when you forgive, the earth falls prostrate before you. The Universe rejoices, shimmying and shaking with free flowing joy and peace 🙂
So, today, I’m asking you to consider if there is anyone or anything that you feel unforgiving toward. And if there is, then choose today to forgive UNCONDITIONALLY, meaning you are not going to be concerned about IF and HOW the other party responds.
Conditionality is the only barrier to LOVE which is essentially UNCONDITIONAL.
So, today, right now if you can, put aside whatever you are doing just for a few moments and choose to forgive. Intend to restore peace in your heart by letting go of any hurt, anger, distrust, sense of betrayal, guilt…
Let me make it clear…
YOU DO NOT NEED TO SAY OR DO ANYTHING OUTWARDLY to start with. You just need to hold a sincere intention in your heart – that the only thing between you and the other party is Peace, Joy and Love.
You see,
what you hold in your heart is infinitely more powerful than anything you may hold in your mind (your thoughts), your mouth (your words) or your hands (your actions).
By holding this sincere intention in your heart, you allow yourself to feel once again the flow of love, peace and joy in your heart as the space in it that was once occupied by hurt makes way for love 🙂
Do it and feel the surge of Life and Love flow through you!
Do it and let that good feeling guide your thoughts, words and actions!
Do it and let the earth fall prostrate before you!
Do it for peace among all!
