Dear Friend
Today, on your birthday,
Let it be known to all present
That you have lived your life as the miracle that it is
For, from birth to this day,
You have showed up every day and
Presented yourself to the world
And no matter what your relationship with the world has been
Or with yourself, for that matter,
You have showed up every day
I am used to thinking of miracles as
Large, expansive, intensive, grandiose, improbable affairs
All the while ignoring their reliable, consistent and unpretentious nature
Of course, the thing that I am really ignoring is that it is my mind, or rather, my learned ways of thinking and seeing that determine how I think of a miracle
So today, I choose to see a miracle as the ‘Miraculum’ that it is –
An object of wonder
As you are, dear Friend
Not because of your achievements – no doubt there are many
Not because of your influence – of course it has been powerful
Not because of your intelligence – though that is admirable
Not even because of your concern and care for others – and you have never lacked this
But because, in acknowledging and celebrating you as a Miraculum
– an object of wonder –
I am acknowledging and celebrating the wonderfulness of Life, of Love
And you, dear Friend, are a perfect expression of it.
