Making our personal awakening a PRIORITY is how we authentically make world peace our PRIORITY. The world does not awaken without our awakening. We are the world, the unified whole, so that there cannot be world peace without personal peace.
Taking action toward creating peaceful communities seems hollow and counterproductive if we approach it from a state of personal conflict, when we hold grievance within ourselves toward ourselves and others.
Yes, it may appear that we are doing something good, something noble, something worthwhile, and there will be people who will affirm this to us, but what happens within us? How have we transformed? Or have we merely distracted ourselves long enough to avoid having to heal the wound of unforgiving within us?
It is too easy to use others and other causes to distract ourselves from healing the wounds within us.
If we are serious about world peace, about peace within our families, our teams, our communities, it seems to me that we must make it a PRIORITY, a NON-NEGOTIABLE ACT to keep ourselves in a state of peace.
You see, it is too easy to use others and other causes to distract us from healing the wounds within ourselves.
A Course in Miracles says:
Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false.
In the Vedic tradition, this injunction is practised by negation of all that is not true: ‘Neti, neti’, ‘Not this, not this’
The world does not awaken without our awakening. We are the world, the unified whole, so that there cannot be world peace without personal peace.
For us to bring peace to ourselves and our world, we must recognize the instances of conflict, or grievance that we experience. And no, just because some of these instances might be fleeting, doesn’t make them any less a grievance, for in fact, they reflect long-held beliefs that we hold about ourselves and others.
My irritation at a driver on the road, for instance, might be fleeting but my dismissing my irritation as inconsequential is unwise since my irritation is surely a reflection of my deeply embedded beliefs about myself and the other, about right and wrong, about being wronged, about judgement and punishment and ultimately, about what I believe about ‘reality’ – that I am a separated self and the other exists as another separated self who has done wrong against me. I cannot possibly be in a peaceful state while I hold such beliefs and keep activating them.
Every time I experience a conflict, no matter how ‘trivial’ or ‘momentary’, I activate the wound of judgement and the falsehood of separation. I cannot be a peaceful presence while in a state of judgement and separation.
Mindfulness brings us into the awareness of the barriers we have built against Love, of which Peace is one of its qualities. By simply noticing whatever appears in our dualistic, separated mindset, we fall, by default, into the unseparated consciousness of Love, which is our ultimate and only Truth.
Join us to experience true Peace, our true Nature, to strengthen our willingness and resolve to bring and be nothing but Peace in our world.
